rp sampleWhy was he still here? Why on earth had he decided to just stay here after long ago realizing there was no longer any need for him to continue staying? To him, he had become obvious that nobody needed him, wanted him, or had an interest in him being here. He had come to meet his family and be reunited with them. To be reunited with his younger brother. The sad thing was that he had only seen the teenager once. It was just that one time in the hospital that he had met up with him and after that David must have been completely erased from his memory. Apparently he had not made a very amazing first impression. Maybe if he had done something dramatic his image would have stuck in Kyle’s mind to give him a clear view of his features and the fact that maybe, just maybe, he should contact him. Just once so that David could actually have a chance to know him. David had constantly beaten himself over the head because he hadn’t at least gotten a phone number or an address. What the hell had he done? Just got up and left him there without even thinking that he should give him some sort of information on where he was? That must have been it. He had been so excited about his find that he had just gone off as proud as can be. And with working out of town, David didn’t exactly have much time on his hands as it was. So he never really felt like just moseying around town hoping to run into him. That would end up a failure, he was sure. So what kept him here?
The fact that he wouldn’t quite. David was not the kind to just sit down and give up. He would keep at it until he finally got what he wanted no matter how hard he had to work. So, possibly, it was that piece of him that kept here in this little town. The rest of him wanted to leave. He had tried but just so happened to have some difficulties doing it. But that was a whole other story. One he would rather not think back on.
All in all, there was absolutely nothing here for him. He only thought that there was. Hoped there was.
David wasn’t sure what possessed him to do it. To go outside in the cold, that is. Maybe the inside of his car was starting to feel a little cramped considering it was the only thing he had at the moment. For a while he had just stayed in an apartment and paid the rent with someone else who had let him stay there. But then he had gotten that funny idea that he was going to leave. Ha, was he stupid. Now he was stuck in his car until he could decide on what to do or until luck came and smacked him in the face. No- that didn’t sound nice at all. When luck came and shook his hand. Yes, that sounded much more pleasant than being smacked upside the head. At least then he may have gotten some sense knocked into him while his stubborn habits were pushed aside. But, knowing the luck he had been receiving, he was in for some pain.
He could take it. A little bit of pain and a few more awkward situations. David was sure he could handle it. There was not a doubt in his mind that he would be alright in the end. Something would happen and his life would move on. One challenge would be over and he would be happy with living his simple life again.
As he stepped out into the cold, David quickly sat back into the car, leaning slightly out the door to glance around. He rubbed his forearms quickly for a moment while his muddy brown stare glanced around the empty parking lot. His eyes showed his weariness and maybe even a bit of annoyance because of his situation. Once they had successfully looked over most of the details outside, David leaned back in and rummaged through the backseat of his car until he pulled forth a gray, button up jacket that most seemed to think went with some ugly suit. He then dug out a green cap that was nowhere near matching his clothing. A green cap, a gray jacket, a red plaid shirt, and blue jeans. In his personal opinion, it looked awful. But, then again, it wasn’t like he had a full length mirror to look himself up and down.
The mismatching man stepped out of his car and then turned to lock the door behind him. His keys were slipped into his right pocket and he was off. His stride was a bit wide out of the slight nervousness of being out here at night. The idea of wild animals or crazy killers wasn’t exactly one that was appealing to him. He didn’t like it at all. He had already managed to have some interesting thoughts on killer deer and now here he was thinking about all of the ways someone could take him out.
Cars: a hit and run. A bear could pop out of nowhere and maul him. Maybe some kind of wild dog would end up chasing him all around until one of them eventually gave up. Hopefully David would not be the one giving up. Or, who knew, maybe that killer deer he had always imagined would finally make its appearance. Then he would really have bad luck. How many people ran into killer deer anyway?
Walking and thinking: something that he found himself doing often these days. Just thinking about everything that was around him or things he had seen and done. He thought about the past and the present. The future, as cloudy as it seemed, was also something he thought up. He tried his best to see through the thick clouds and find out what the future did hold but his attempts were useless. It was one of those ‘you’ll have to wait and see’ things. Wonderful. Thankfully, David was good at waiting.
The cemetery. How funny of him to end up here. Who in their right mind would want to wander around a cemetery at night? Apparently David since he found himself carefully edging toward the gates. He had never seen it really. Never noticed it or taken a chance to even think that one could have been placed here.
Now his steps were slow and cautious. His eyes tried to focus on only one thing at a time but he was finding it impossible to do here. He had never liked the feel of these places. But it wasn’t the place itself that made him feel this way. It was the people. People were sad when they were here. Even if it was just a little bit. It was a place to remember and realize what you had a lost. You had lost another human being. A person that was probably important to you and now you were here to grieve for them. You were here to miss them and wish they were still with you. But once you were placed here for good, that’s where you would stay. A corpse in the ground that was no longer you. Just an empty shell and that broke people’s hearts at one time or another. Life and death. This was the most common of places for the two to meet.
David’s already worried heart seemed to leap in his chest when he found a form on the ground. A bit of a smell coming along with whatever it was, he guessed. It was a person. Thankfully, or maybe hopefully, not a dead one. What was it with him and finding people on the ground that he assumed to be dead? This person also seemed to have lost his food while he was here. So, maybe, he was dead?
Well, shit.
After taking a hard swallow, David shifted carefully around him. He was tempted to run as fast as he could the other way, but didn’t. Maybe he needed his help? David slowly began to lower himself toward the ground and timidly put his right hand out to touch the other man. His eyes were narrowed now and his body tense; ready to run on a seconds notice if shit hit the fan.
“Hello?” he breathed quietly, hoping to get an answer. He was sure that if he didn’t get one he would stiffen up. On the other hand, if he did get one, he would probably jump right out of his shoes. His brow furrowed at this thought, his hand drawing back. Then he murmured softly, “You better be alive.”
