The day at the office was done, she was free to escape the confines of the building where Fame Modeling was headquartered and get on with life. She hated workdays where no modeling got done, she would rather be in front of the camera or on the runway then getting her latest schedule or going over her contract to make sure that what they were trying to use as experiments in there were allowed by the various stipulations. She understood that it was necessary, yes, but that did not mean that she had to like it, nor did she have any good reason to enjoy those days either, it just kept reminding her how little control she actually had of her career, not that it was a horrible thing by any means. Her mother would probably just laugh and tell her that it was just the way that the fashion business was.
She stepped out of the big glass doors of the towering building, resisting the urge to inhale deeply, she'd learnt that lesson when she first moved to LA from where she had grown up in North Carolina, the air here could burn your lungs on a bad day. She missed being able to take deep breaths just for the hell of it. There were a lot of things there that were not here, like the side of the family she had grown up with. Of course, living in LA was not without its advantages, for one she could model without her mother coming to every show and making comments about how to make herself more saleable as happened every time she modeled in New York.
However, she shrugged off the feeling of dissatisfaction as she flipped her hair over her shoulder and put on a smile for the world to see. The public eye was watching. All the people who dreamed of doing what she did and all the people who hated her for her profession, they were watching, watching for new trends and screw ups, a smile and a frown, class and public indecency. She aimed to satisfy the wishes of those who wished her well rather then her detractors, it was the only good way to get through life. And so she smiled, smiled to keep hopes up, smiled to spite the haters, and smiled because it felt good.
She trotted down the street, her heels clicking, her hair down her back in characteristic waves, her grey dress hanging about her curves comfortably. She kept that smile on as she passed the various shops that lined the bottom levels of the many skyscrapers. It was no shock to her that most of them were clothing stores, being that she was in the Fashion district of Bunker Hill at the moment, and it was even better that she was in the mood to shop for herself at the moment, try on all the fun clothes that she didn't walk down a runway in. Sure, that was fun, but just trying on clothes was fun enough without the getting paid for it, in fact, just dressing up was probably some of the most fun that she had when she went. Admittedly, she wasn't wearing tailored clothes for these impromptu sessions, but that was fine.
She stopped by one of the shops that she saw and smiled when she saw the wares in the window. She could have fun in there, but for the moment, she was happy to be window shopping for the moment, she would probably go in in a moment, but she was surely going to admire what they had put together in the window display for a moment.
